Carol Margaret Hyry, age 76, was called home to Heaven on Monday, June 12, 2017 in Duluth after battling cancer with typical Finnish Sisu strength and dignity.

She was born to Walter and Hilda Prusi on March 1, 1941 in Negaunee, Michigan. Carol graduated with honors from Negaunee High School. She moved to Minneapolis and worked for Honeywell Corporation in her twenties. An adoring and devoted mother, Carol moved back to Michigan when her daughter Jill was a toddler so she could spend more time with her and her family. She married Phil Hyry in 1976 and they eventually moved to Minnesota. Carol spent most of her working years as a legal secretary, and retired in order to devote her days to caring for her beloved small grandchildren Asher and Olivia. Once they were in elementary school she worked in their school lunch room and volunteered in their classrooms.

A sweet, generous woman with an easy smile and twinkly eyes, Carol loved nothing more than spending time with her friends and family. She role-modeled love and acceptance of all people. Carol knit beautiful projects, was a great cook, loved reading and travel. She enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and the Vikings but her favorite was cheering on her grandchildren at their athletic events, and she was a very devoted fan.

Carol was preceded in death by her beloved father, Walter Prusi.

She will be deeply missed by her surviving family including her 96 year old mother, Hilda Prusi; husband, Phil Hyry; daughter, Jill (Jacob) Hintsala and step-sons, Bob (Nicole) Hyry and Kevin (Shylo) Hyry; grandchildren Asher, Olivia, and Isaac Hintsala, Elaina (Jacob) Fronden, Chelsee, Ryan, Ashley, Hadden and Zak Hyry, and grandson Brantley Larson. Carol is also survived by her loving siblings and cousins who she grew up with in the beautiful Bellevue countryside and a host of brothers and sisters in faith.

Visitation will be 6:00 - 9:00 pm Wednesday, June 14 at Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church, 6273 Hwy 2 in Munger. Visitation will continue Thursday, June 15 at 12:00 pm until the 1:00 pm. Funeral Service at Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church.
